Bishop J.C. Ryle
John C. Ryle was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire County, England. He went to Eton college and then to Oxford where he finished his studies. in 1837. He was ordained, in 1841, by Bishop Charles Sumner of Winchester as a minister in the Anglican Church. In 1880 he was named as the first Bishop of the diocese of Liverpool. He was a believer in the reformed faith held to the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, as expressed by the Church of England. He retired in 1900 at age 83 and died later the same year.
